Medicare (Related to Long Term Care)

• Is through a Federal Program and is available to seniors 65 years of age or older who have worked or whose spouse has worked and paid into the system.
• Does not pay for assisted living.
• Is based on the medical needs of the patient
• Requires that the patient has had a hospital stay of three consecutive days within a thirty day period of admission into the nursing home.
• Requires a continual skilled need such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy
• Is very limited with regard to nursing home placement, both in the amount that is paid and and in the length of time that it pays
